Sunbeam-Talbot 90 Mk IIA
Vehicle Drivetrain Parts and Components

The engine in your Sunbeam-Talbot 90 Mk IIA may make the power, but it is the transmission (or transaxle) that sends it to rest of the driveline. With an automatic transmission (AT) the torque converter and flexplate are responsible for transferring the rotating engine power to the transmission. With a manual transmission (MT) the clutch disc, flywheel, pressure plate, and throwout bearing (or slave cylinder) all work together to get the power to the transmission front input shaft. Once the transmission has done its job, it is up to the driveshaft to get the power to the U-joint (universal joint) attached to the differential, through to the axle (or constant velocity joint), and finally to the wheels. Your local NAPA Auto Parts has all the parts you need, including new and reman CV axles, to keep you rolling.

Your drivetrain can only work reliably if the parts it has are well maintained. Automatic transmissions needs to have their ATF fluid checked and only replaced with the exact correct manufacturer specified fluid type (like Mercon, Dexron, or Type F for example). It may also be a good idea to drop the transmission pan and do a filter change, or perform a transmission flush. Most automatic transmissions also have an oil cooler, so check the hoses and lines for leaks. A shredded CV boot can lead to a failed CV joint and CV axle. And if you are working on a half shaft, make sure to check the hub bearing for any play and that the hub nut is torqued correctly. A sloppy upper ball joint or lower ball joint can chew up your tires, or even make your Sunbeam-Talbot 90 Mk IIA harder to control. U-joints should be snug, and there shouldn't be any signs of leakage around the differential cover. And if you have a four-wheel drive don't forget that your transfer case should be checked as well, as faulty transfer case motor could ruin your next adventure.
