At NAPA Online, you’ll find all kinds of upgrades you can make to the bed of your pickup truck. Whether it’s a tonneau cover to protect your payload, a toolbox to hold all your gear, or a bed mat to keep your inner-liner padded and scratch-free, you’ll find what you need here at NAPA. But often the first step in finding the perfect truck bed accessory is determining the length of your bed. We’ll tell you how here so you can rest assured that you ordered the right part for an upgraded pickup.
Step One: Identify Your Cab Style
Even trucks of the same make, model, and year are not always exactly the same. Generally, a truck model will be produced with a variety of cab options. Different cab options typically have different bed sizes.
Once you’ve verified your cab size, you’ll be better able to identify your bed length.
Step Two: Measure Your Truck Bed
It’s time to bust out the tape measure. But keep in mind, when measuring your truck bed it’s important to understand what figure the accessories manufacturers are referring to. The industry standard figure is the length from the inside of your bulkhead to the inside of your closed tailgate.
After measuring, you might find that the length you measured doesn’t match any of the products you’ve been looking at. That’s because manufacturers generally round to the nearest half-foot. So if your truck bed reads 77” you can confidently order the product for a 6.5” bed.
Step Three: Match Your Measurement to Your Make
So now you know the cab style of your truck, and you have the proper measurement of the bed in hand. All you have to do next is match your measurement to the terminology used by your specific manufacturer. Don’t forget, a slight angle in your tape measure could throw the reading off by a couple of inches, so think of that length more like a close estimate when you search for it below.
