When fractions of a second separate competitors, ignition management becomes a critical part of the overall race strategy. Small timing adjustments throughout a pass can have a measurable impact on performance. For experienced tuners who rely on precise control, the MSD Programmable Digital-7 Plus Ignition Control is engineered to provide advanced functionality and detailed adjustability for demanding race applications.
The Programmable Digital-7 Plus is equipped with features such as Individual Cylinder Management, multiple Step Retards, adjustable Rev Limits, and programmable Shift Points, along with expanded tools designed for competitive motorsports. Timing can be ramped in by stages, while vacuum advance and boost retard functions are accessible with the required MAP sensor. RPM limits may be configured by RPM per second or progressively introduced during launch. The unit supports engine speeds up to 12,500 RPM at 14.4 volts, operates on 12–18 volt negative ground systems, and delivers 1.1 amp per 1,000 RPM. An upgraded 40MHz microcontroller enhances accuracy to within 0.1 degrees of timing and ±1 RPM up to 10,000 RPM. Additional capabilities include enhanced X–Y graph plotting with interpolation, programmable firing order, automatic magnetic pickup compensation for crank trigger or distributor inputs, gear-based timing curves, a cam sync output for fuel management or data acquisition systems, and the option to trigger devices based on RPM, time, or pressure. The system can log up to 20 seconds of run data—including two seconds prior to launch—and allows detailed review of ignition activity through a dedicated Launch History display. A MAP sensor is required for boost-related functions. The ignition includes wiring harnesses, mounting hardware, an RS232 communication cable, and Pro Data+ software on mini CD. It is not legal for use in NHRA classes except Pro Mod, and the Programmable 7 Series has since been updated with the Power Grid Ignition System.
Designed specifically for advanced racing environments, this ignition control delivers extensive programmability, precise timing control, and integrated data review tools to support competitive performance. Backed by a 1-Year Limited Warranty.
