When combined with an MSD 6 Series Ignition, it is capable of delivering up to 300 milliamps of current and up to 40,000 volts of maximum output. A 70:1 turns ratio and reduced primary resistance contribute to robust spark energy, while the windings are fully encapsulated in Ciba polyurethane to enhance strength and vibration resistance. The durable housing features a tall tower and brass primary terminals for secure connections in a compact footprint. Intended as a performance upgrade for electronic ignitions and MSD Ignitions, it is offered in black or red finishes. When used with a points distributor or a non current limiting ignition system without an MSD Ignition, a 0.8 ohm ballast resistor MSD PN 8214 is required and must be installed in series with any factory resistors on the positive coil lead.
